    Emotional Regulation

One of the areas that I’m working on with my therapist is emotional regulation. Emotional regulation refers to the ability to manage and control one’s emotions healthily and constructively. It involves the capacity to understand, express, and modulate one’s feelings, so they are appropriate to the situation and do not lead to impulsive or disruptive behaviors. Effective emotional regulation is crucial for maintaining stable relationships, making sound decisions, and coping with life’s challenges. Emotional regulation can be challenged by various factors, including biological predispositions. Some individuals may have a genetic or neurological predisposition that makes it more difficult for them…

    Transthereotical Model for Behavior Change

So, on Friday we learned about something called the Transtheoretical Model for Changing Habits. The Transthereotical Model (TTM), also known as the stages of change model, is a theory of behavior change that describes how people progress through six stages as they change their behavior: The TTM is not a linear model. People may move back and forth between stages as they progress through the change process. For example, someone who is trying to quit smoking may start in the precontemplation stage, then move to the contemplation stage, then back to the precontemplation stage, and so on. Eventually, they may…

A Weekend of Joy, Productivity, and Connection

This weekend's looking busy but fun! I'm set to chat about a website redesign for a friend's business, an awesome project that will pump up my portfolio. I'm also catching up with an old mate over some grub, jumping into a D&D session, and making my basement space comfier with my great-aunt. On top of this, there's room for some AI work and blog tweaking. Staying scheduled to dodge old bad habits, but all these plans are stuff I love!

    Treatment Plan

I've been working closely with my therapist to tackle my Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) symptoms, focusing primarily on emotional deregulation, a distorted sense of reality, and an ever-changing sense of self. My therapy plan is getting a week-long extension, allowing for more individual time with my therapist. More reality checks are a key part of my recovery.

    Visceral Flashbacks

The author recounts a traumatic past relationship marked by co-dependence, manipulation, jealousy, emotional abuse and infidelity. A therapy session highlighting values, relationship red flags, and dealing with trauma brought forth overwhelming memories of these experiences. The author's ex-partner's lack of consideration and unkind accusations, stemming from his potential antisocial personality disorder, amplified the author's own struggle with borderline personality disorder, adding emotional intensity, conflict, and trauma to the relationship.

    Cold & Windy

So, this morning, I have a doctor’s appointment to bring my great aunt to. She broke her ankle around the time that I moved in. Today, there are x-rays to determine how well it’s healing. Then we find out how long she has to wear this god-awful boot. I feel bad about the boot; her mobility is obviously hindered by it. Not only is it rigid, but it’s very heavy and difficult to maneuver. Then after this appointment, I’ll be bringing her back home, and I’ll be going to my own appointment. I have to call therapy and tell them…

Today I’m having trouble with… PEOPLE

For the most part, I really enjoy the treatment program that I’m in. I feel that CBT & DBT really resonate with me. Not only does it make logical sense, but it’s very relaxed and forgiving. I really think that had it been strict and regimented, I would be in opposition to it the whole time. Everything that I’ve learned through treatment has proven useful in a lot of ways. Not only with addiction recovery, but depression, anxiety, mood stabilization, dealing with stressors, and more. Today, however… Today has been difficult. I left the house feeling annoyed today. I don’t…

    Schemas

We learned in more depth what “schemas” are and how they affect us. For example, a big schema for me is abandonment or fear of abandonment. This schema plays out in my relationships in such a way that I tend to push people away before they can push me away. This also falls in line with my BPD. Our workbook defines schemas as “enduring negative patterns that develop during childhood or adolescence.” There are a lot of different schemas, but here are some of mine and examples of how they manifest: To people looking in from the outside, some of…

    Emotions & Trauma

Part of my therapy involves trauma. We haven’t gotten too heavily into it yet however, I received a handout from my therapist that has some very interesting information in it, especially with how it relates to me and my traumas. I’m both really excited to begin work on my trauma but also very anxious about the memories and emotions that it is going to bring up. I blocked out a lot of memories, especially from my childhood so I think it will be difficult to work through a lot of that, but I think it will be worth…

    IDK YOU DECIDE

God damnit. I hate when people make decisions for you without your consent. I hate when they think they know what’s best for you. I hate it when they don’t take your needs or wants into consideration. I just wish everyone that says they loved me would show me a little more respect. If you’re not going to give me the respect to grab my own shit, at least communicate that with me.      I was supposed to go and clean out my old room with family. I had asked to be a part of that. I know…
