Are there any activities or hobbies you’ve outgrown or lost interest in over time?
When I was a young boy, one of the hobbies that I really enjoyed but grew out of was woodburning. In case you’re unfamiliar, wood burning involves wood, obviously. But, it also involves a metal pen-like equipment that heats up. The woodworking utensil is pointed with a straight edge so that you can press it down on the wood and it burns the wood, darkening it.
This was a hobby I took up when I was pretty young. Thinking back on it now, it was a pretty dangerous hobby for a child to be doing. My mother had a lot of trust in me, I guess. I was fortunate in never having burned myself with the tool, but it was because I had a lot of respect for the tool. It was very obviously hot, so I knew that when I was using it it wasn’t play time.
I don’t know if I’ll ever pick wood burning up again. I enjoyed it when I was younger but I’ve developed other hobbies since then. Maybe in my retirement if that’s ever a thing I get to do.
