At some point relatively recently, Spotify must have implemented a change to their apps. I used to be able to open the app and play music on connected devices. Oftentimes, I would enjoy playing the music on my Amazon Echo but control it from my laptop or mobile device. However, now you have to be a premium subscriber to use that feature.
I really despise it when companies have wonderful features like that and then take them away and put them behind a paywall. If companies want to introduce a feature behind a paywall, that’s whatever. But to take a simple yet useful feature that was already available to use for free and then place it behind a paywall is horrendous in my opinion. It’s a cheap money-grabbing tactic.
If Shopify thinks that I’m going to subscribe for that sole feature, they’re mistaken. Especially considering they make gobs of money off advertisements. I don’t see why they have to have features for premium extend beyond losing the advertising. That alone was a good enough reason to pay for premium.
Sorry for ranting and raving. It’s just frustrating that so many companies are switching from free services to freemium services. Anyways, I’m hyped on caffeine. My plan is to stay up all night and all day tomorrow in order to get my sleep schedule back on track. I know, it doesn’t sound healthy.
