In therapy, we’re given a workbook. It’s a pretty large workbook. One of the portions of the book is called the Foundation. It’s early in the book however, in our group, we go through them toward the end of treatment. Before every Foundation, the therapists ask what it is. My explanation and simplest way to describe it, it is our journey through addiction. What leads us to where we are.

I think other groups within Rogers will have people go through the Foundation early in their treatment because it lays the groundwork for what you’re about to work on. However, with our therapists, they prefer to do it later in treatment. Mine is going to be long, I’ve had a long journey which is why I’m starting to work on it now. I’ll probably give it in a couple of weeks. The reason our therapists prefer we do it toward the end of treatment is that we’ve learned a lot more about addiction. We’re also not opposed to the therapy since many people are in the beginning stages.
I’m looking forward to it. I think a lot of people fear it. For me, it’s not only going to be cathartic (yes, there’s that word again). It’s also going to be a way to understand and process everything that I’ve been there. And there’s been a lot. Not all areas are going to deserve or be ready for a deep dive but I think they all deserve to be mentioned even on a shallow level. Everything that I’ve been through has made me the person I am today and is the reason I am where I am, right?
So, I’m going to take the next week or two to really iron that out. Wish me luck!
Take care.
