Eschatology.
If you are unaware of this word, I encourage you to look it up. Simply put, it is the part of theology concerned with death, judgment, and the final destiny of the soul and of humankind. It is the study of the “End Times.”
Right now, this concept is not just a theological abstraction; it is playing out in real-time on the global stage. I believe we could all benefit from understanding it, because if you look at the historical precedence, you will see that I am not just connecting random dots. There is a script being followed, and we need to understand the actors if we want to change the ending.
The Divergence: Jesus vs. The Institution
To understand the present, we must look at the roots. There is a distinct difference between the message of Jesus and the message of St. Paul.
Jesus taught a “Way” of living—a path rooted in radical love, non-violence, and the direct care of the marginalized. His ministry was about how we treat one another here and now.
St. Paul, however, built a theology about Jesus. He shifted the focus from the “Way” of compassion to a system of belief and atonement. This shift allowed institutions to weaponize faith, creating an “us vs. them” dynamic that Jesus himself never promoted. When we prioritize dogma over the actual practice of loving our neighbor, we become susceptible to manipulation.
The Geopolitical Trap
This manipulation is evident in the current geopolitical landscape. We are witnessing a terrifying strategy where specific groups—specifically extreme Zionists—appear to be promoting conflict and even fueling anti-semitism.
Why? To bring about the End Times.
There are factions that believe they can force the hand of the Divine by manufacturing the conditions for the apocalypse. They need hatred. They need division. They need the world to tear itself apart to validate their prophecies. By feeding into hatred—even hatred against those perpetrating violence—we are unwittingly playing our part in their script.
Compassion as Resistance
If their weapon is division, our shield must be compassion. This is not just a moral ideal; it is a strategic necessity.
Compassion is critical. Do not feed into the opposite. The moment we indulge in cruelty, malice, indifference, apathy, disdain, contempt, animosity, hatred, coldness, or callousness, we add fuel to their fire.
Discernment is key.
A message that contains any of these underlying tones is meant to divide us. It is meant to break us. Whether it comes from a politician, a news anchor, or a religious leader, if the underlying energy is contempt, it is part of the mechanism of destruction.
The Mechanics of Division
When we allow these darker emotions to take root, large populations become easy to steer.
- Indifference allows us to ignore the suffering of others because they aren’t “our people.”
- Contempt dehumanizes the “other,” making violence against them seem justifiable.
- Malice actively seeks harm, turning neighbors into enemies.
These are the tools used to fracture humanity. We must reject them entirely.
A Radical Welcome
We must make all people feel welcome on this planet. Our compassion cannot be selective. It must extend to the American, the Mexican, the Venezuelan, the Russian, the Jewish, the Gentile, the Atheist, and everyone in between.
Your neighbors are still your neighbors, regardless of what global narratives are being spun. Show them compassion. Refuse to be an agent of division.
Contemplation and Reflection
Take a moment to sit in silence and observe your own reactions to the current state of the world.
- Where do you feel the pull toward hatred or apathy?
- Can you see the difference between the “Way” of compassion and the “Religion” of division in your own life?
- How can you practice radical welcome today, even in a small way?
We are the writers of the next chapter. Let us write it with love.
