Infinity Nikki… New obsession?

I just downloaded this really pretty game on the PS5. It’s called Infinity Nikki. It’s not my typical genre of games. Lately, I’ve been playing a lot of Diablo IV. Infinity Nikki is definitely a change of pace.

As you can see, it’s not at all like Diablo IV or my favorite game, Overwatch. For that reason, I was not expecting to be impressed. However, the little bit of gaming I’ve done so far, I think I might give this game an honest try.

There are several reasons. Obviously, the graphics are excellent! The views of the scenes are stunning. The detail on the characters and dresses is impressive. I’m really enjoying the atmosphere and aesthetics.

The controls are mostly intuitive, and the ones that don’t come naturally, the instructions are pretty easy to understand and clear in their wording. It makes it enjoyable to play because I can focus on the content and the pretty graphics!

There also appears to be a storyline. You start out with your friend Momo (the little yellow guy you see in the first screenshot) in an attic that’s usually off limits. Right away, Nikki and Momo discover these beautiful dresses hanging on mannequins.

As Nikki goes out to reach for the prettiest dress, a gorgeous red and black ball gown, the dress reaches out and grabs her first! The dress quickly opens a portal and throws Momo in (rude, right?!) Then magically Nikki is in the red and black ball gown and sucked into the portal.

A mysterious woman’s voice calls out explains that she’s in a place called Miraland. She beckons, to which Nikki and Momo follow a somewhat linear pathway to the destinations. As they explore, you learn about the various magical dresses and the abilities they give Nikki.

There is a dress that allows Nikki to float and another dress to purify the darkness (more on this in a moment). I have to say, switching between dresses is very satisfying.

Anyway, back to the story. Nikki comes across this woman hanging from her arms in chains from the ceiling of a building. This woman gives her a prophesy I guess you could call it. She explains that Nikki is possibly the one to save Miraland (shock!)

The woman then takes the magical dresses away and teleports her to a faraway place in Miraland. She’s stranded and in her plain pink dress. No magical abilities… yet.

While exploring the game delves into some of the background. Apparently a war happened? Darkness fell over the realm. Nikki has to gather resources, craft dresses, and expel the darkness. You can see that the state of ruin that Miraland is in comes in the way of finding out the full story.
