The 1960s were an interesting time in the United States. I just watched a video of an interview taken in a mental hospital in 1967. The person being interviewed was a teenager who took acid. He told his mother that he met God and was waiting for God to take him. Concerned, his mother called the authorities. When the boy tried to explain himself to the authorities, he did not articulate his thoughts very well, so they brought him to a mental hospital. He was then interviewed by what seems to be a psychiatrist who was trying to get a better understanding of the teenager’s acid trip.
Watching the video, it’s very illuminating to see how the teenager’s thoughts and ideas parallel with a lot of new age ideologies of today. Thoughts and beliefs that are considered to be normal now, back then created a state of alarm amongst adults and professionals. It seems that there was such a desire to fit into a societal norm back then that even a thought that did not align with the norms would land one in lockdown. It makes me wonder how much of our actions, thoughts, and constructs are predicated on today’s societal norms.
I’ll share the video with you. Give it a watch, it’s a quick video. Then, leave a comment and share your thoughts. Tell me how much you think society will change over the next 60 years.

Reminds me of the old scared straight videos they used to show back in the day. lol
Where will we be in 60 years? Honestly, damned if I know, but it is interesting, as you observed, that the guy at the end is talking about exactly the same type of thing we are now: how people basically don’t want to settle for the average 9 – 5, white picket fence rinse and repeat anymore.
Exactly! I think some ways of life weren’t meant for humans.
I sometimes wonder what cavemen and nomads would think of us and our white, clean, neat lives? lol
